OTF & Automatic Knife Laws
Out the Front (OTF) and automatic knives are regulated under the Federal Switchblade Act and various state laws. These knives cannot be shipped across state lines to the general public in many cases.
States Where OTF/Automatic Knives Are Restricted or Banned:
- California — Switchblades with blades over 2 inches are illegal
- New York — Gravity knives and switchblades heavily restricted
- New Jersey — Switchblades banned
- Massachusetts — Switchblades banned
- Hawaii — Strict blade length and type restrictions
- Washington D.C. — Automatic knives banned
This list is not exhaustive. Laws change frequently. Always verify your local laws before purchasing.
Illinois Customers
OTF and automatic knives are legal in Illinois for civilians (law updated in 2017). However, some municipalities such as Chicago may have additional local restrictions.

You must be 18 years of age or older to purchase any knife from American Patriot Store. By completing your purchase, you confirm that you meet this age requirement.
Shipping Restrictions
